Dental Exam

Whether you’re coming in for your initial appointment as a new patient or a routine check-up, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your oral health. This evaluation includes a thorough examination of the condition of your soft tissues, teeth, and gums. In cases where a visual inspection alone may not provide a complete assessment, we may also utilise low-dose X-rays.

After the examination is finished, we will always provide you with a clear summary of any clinical findings, if there are any. You’ll also have ample time to engage in a discussion with your dentist to further understand and address any concerns or questions you may have.

Prevention of Disease

Regular and proper toothbrushing is the key to preventing tooth decay. Our team of dentists and hygienists are always eager to provide proactive guidance and demonstrate effective toothbrushing techniques. Additionally, for patients who have a higher risk of tooth decay, we offer the option of applying a protective coating or sealant to reduce this risk.

Frequent check-ups to assess the condition of your teeth allow us to identify any signs of decay in its early stages and take preventive measures before it leads to discomfort or pain. During these appointments, we also conduct assessments of your gums, enabling us to detect and address gum disease in its early phases, ensuring it is addressed promptly.

Dental Fillings

Fillings can be crafted from various materials depending on the specific needs of your tooth. Indirect fillings are custom-made to fit your tooth and are created in a dental laboratory before being applied, typically requiring multiple visits to our Cambridge dental practice. In contrast, direct fillings can be applied in a single appointment.

Many patients prefer white or tooth-colored fillings due to their popularity. These options are both fast and offer a natural appearance. With white fillings, they blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, making them virtually indistinguishable to others.

Root Canal Treatment

When the pulp inside a tooth becomes inflamed, it can lead to pain. If left untreated, this inflammation may progress to the point where the tooth dies. Neglected, a dead tooth can eventually result in an abscess, characterised by pain and swelling. To preserve a tooth that is dead or dying, a root canal treatment becomes necessary.

Root canal treatments entail the removal of all dead pulp tissues within the tooth, followed by a meticulous cleaning of the empty root canals. Once the tooth is free of all deceased and infected tissues, the canals are filled.

After a root canal treatment, the tooth no longer contains nerves, which eliminates the associated pain. However, it’s important to note that due to the inflammation generated during the treatment itself, both the tooth and the surrounding tissues may require some time to fully heal.

Dental Crowns & Bridges

A dental crown, often referred to as a “cap,” is placed over a weakened or damaged tooth to reinforce its strength. When compared to a tooth with a large filling, a tooth fitted with a crown offers greater long-term stability and a reduced risk of fracturing.

Dental bridges, on the other hand, are essentially crowns with additional tooth or teeth attached to them, serving as replacements for missing teeth.

To have a crown or bridge properly fitted, it typically requires two separate appointments. During the initial visit, the tooth is prepared and shaped, an impression is taken, and a temporary crown is crafted. The second visit, scheduled two/three weeks later, involves fitting the permanent dental crown or dental bridge.

There is a diverse range of materials available for constructing crowns and bridges. Your dentist will present you with various options and discuss their suitability based on your specific needs and preferences. This ensures you make an informed decision regarding the materials used in your dental restoration.
